If you live in a house, the information below applies to you. If you have additional recycling which does not fit in your recycling boxes, this can be put out for collection in an appropriate container (not a black sack) with your boxes.

Mobile phones - are currently being collected by the North Herts Hospice at their shops and also at the Harvest Moon (on the hospice behalf), and also at the Hitchin Initiative Office on Church Yard.

Various types of waste are collected at Catholic Church “Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew Parish” working with Terracycle. Drop off in The LINK area, 16 Nightingale Rd, Hitchin SG5 1QS (01462 459126).

1) BIC Spent Writing Instruments: 

We are collecting: All writing instruments can be collected, regardless of their brand or material - ballpoint pens, felt tips, mechanical pencils, markers, highlighters, fountain pens, and correction tape or correction fluid containers.  

Wooden pencils and crayons can be collected for Diapalante, in Senegal and Mauritania (www.diapalante.org ). 



2) Colgate Oral Care items: 

We are collecting All brands of: Toothpaste tubes and caps, Toothbrush outer packaging, Toothbrushes Electric and battery toothbrush HEADS only, Toothpaste cartons - regardless of material.  

NB:  In order to recycle this waste stream properly please cut open the toothpaste tubes and make sure all leftover product has been removed from the packaging, and please rinse well and let them dry before placing   them in the plastic bucket provided. 


Please note, waste that is NOTaccepted:
• NO Dental Floss and Floss Containers     • NO Breath Sprays

3) Tassimo T-DISCS and Bags, L’Or capsules, Kenco lids and refill packaging: 

for charity – PHASEproviding support and counselling to school children in Hitchin schools.  (http://www.phase-hitchin.org/)

4) McVities Biscuits Wrappers Recycling: 

We are collecting: ALL brands of SWEET or Non-Savoury Biscuit wrappers and Cake wrappers, and ALL brands Cracker Wrappers.  

 (Please NO bags of sweets, marshmallows, chocolate wrappers)   


5) Hovis Type-4 LDPE loaf plastic bags: 

We are collecting: Any BREAD packaging bag made from type-4 or LDPE plastic    (Waste that is NOTaccepted:   Any other bread packaging which isn't LDPE plastic, including but not limited to; bread rolls, baguette, pretzel, crumpet, garlic bread & fruit loaf packaging)

6) Walkers Crisp Packets and KP snacks Recycling: 

We are collecting:   Any brand of crisp bags and multi-packs outer bags. 

              Any brand of nuts, pretzels, popcorn, and hula-hoops packets. 


NB:  In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please empty all packaging of ALL food content.    

(Waste NOT accepted:  any Meat snack bags)    



7) Pringles tubes Recycling: 

We are collecting:   Any size of empty Pringles tubes, and the Plastic lid and seal on Pringles cans     (Waste NOT accepted:  All other types or brands of tubes)   


8) Whiskas and James Wellbeloved  Plastic pet food pouch or flexible plastic pet food bag:  We are collecting:   Any wet pet food pouches, all pet treat flexible plastic packaging and pouches, all dry pet food flexible plastic packaging

NB:  Please only leave accepted packaging types.   
Please ensure all excess and leftover products have been removed from all packaging.
We can only accept pouches which are EMPTY, WASHED CLEAN and DRY on the inside and out - Please rinse the wet food pouches thoroughly and let them dry before bringing them to the LINK.  This is to avoid bacterial and fungal hazardous contamination and exposure of people handling the waste at the parish and at the recycling centre.  

(Waste NOT accepted:  Cans, Cardboard packaging, Paper packaging, Hard plastic packaging, Plastic bottle – please recycle these in normal household waste recycling bins)   


9) RB® Hygiene Home Recycling:   A recycling programme for dishwashing, cleaning and fragrance flexible packaging.  We are collecting ONLY:  Finish dishwashing tablets doypacks, Air Wick fragrance twin pack plastic sleeves, Vanish Stain remover powder doypacks.  Please make sure all leftover product has been removed from the packaging, and place them in a box.  


10) Plastic type-2 (HDPE) bottle tops:  Recycled by Lush Cosmetics – coloured plastic only of type HDPE or High Density Polyethylene or type-2, for the making their new cosmetics packaging.     NO OTHER TYPES OF PLASTIC TOPS PLEASE!

P.S.: To assist us and others helping, in not needing to spend long periods of time sorting through the waste received, please segregate the waste brought, respecting the various bins provided and don’t leave it all mixed together.  Thank you so much for all your support
