The Green Party steps aside to secure Remain vote in Hitchin and Harpenden
The Green Party will not field a candidate in Hitchin & Harpenden in the upcoming General Election as part of a series of electoral arrangements with the Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru. The local Green Party has democratically collectively chosen to step aside to ensure that the Remain vote on 12 December is unified and that a Conservative candidate is not successful in the constituency.
Tim Lee (candidate for North East Herts) & Victoria Snelling (candidate for Stevenage), the co-chairs of the local Green Party said, "Greens are willing to work with other parties for the common good, Brexit would be deeply damaging so we are using the tools we have in seeking to protect the citizens of the UK. We believe this is the right thing to do for the people of Hitchin & Harpenden. We encourage you to campaign with us in Bury St. Edmunds where the Liberal Democrats have stood aside for Helen Geake of the Green Party."
Similar Electoral arrangements have been made in 60 of constituencies across England and Wales.
