Environment Bill

Sign the petition to strengthen the Environment Bill

The current Environment Bill does not hold the government accountable and it does not make it a crime to destroy the environment and natural resources.

The Green Party is demanding updates to the Environment Bill. These would, amongst other things, commit the UK government to categorise ecocide as an international crime and ensure that the Ministers deliver on the agreed targets supporting environmental principles. This could be achieved by creating an independent Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) that would embed transparency and when necessary, take court action against the government and other public bodies for breaches of environmental legislation.

The North Herts and Stevenage Green Party fully supports the new Environment Bill with the proposed amendments.

In September, the Environment Bill will move to report stage. The Green Party are urging you to sign the petition calling on members of the House of Lords to support the amendments. The Environment Bill  will then deliver what is urgently needed for people and the environment.
