We thank everyone that did vote in last week’s General Election, in particular those that came out and voted for the Green Party candidates in the constituencies of Hitchin and also North East Hertfordshire.
The Green Party was pleased to have had candidates in all constituencies across England and Wales except for one, thus giving to many voters the chance to vote for the policies that were their preferential choice.
In North East Herts constituency with a 68% turnout, the 3802 Green voters (7.2% of votes cast), and in Hitchin constituency with a 69% turnout, the 2631 Green voters (5.1% of votes cast), the increased support for the Green Party means the Greens vote share more than doubled. Every Green vote sends the message that fairness and equality and green issues matter to us, and impact on us all.
We were pleased to give voters an alternative action plan, offering ‘Real Hope from Real Change’ to a fairer greener community and future. We are delighted that there are now four Green MPs in Westminster, from the successful campaigns conducted in the four English target constituencies, and so happy that one of the elected Green MPs is Adrian Ramsey, MP for Waveney Valley in the Eastern Region. We send our congratulations to Adrian Ramsey MP and the Waveney Valley team for their great result from the long campaign and hard work!
This improved vote share in the region and that of last May’s local district elections results, provides a us with hope and encouragement for the County Council Elections due on 1st May 2025, when we hope to add Green community representatives to Hertfordshire County Council.
