A big thank you to all those who voted for the Green Party in the Stevenage Constituency in the General Election. It was an honour, and a privilege, to be the candidate.
It was a marvellous and mainly a very positive experience. The vast majority of people were friendly and supportive, even those who didn’t agree with Green Party policies. The people of Stevenage are great. I received so many emails that I was not able to respond to them all before polling closed. I am still working through them!
Also, a big thank you the team. My Agent, Campaign Manager, Social Media Team, and the boots on the ground. They did the real work.
The vote for the Green Party in Stevenage doubled. The vote numbers across the country were the highest ever. And FOUR Green MPs elected. It was a good day.
The Labour party increased their vote share by about 1%, and managed to win two thirds of the seats with one third of the votes. Something is wrong with our democracy.
But every Green vote, and every Green MP, sends the message that Green values are important. Environmental pressures as a result of Climate Chaos cannot be ignored. Those in denial, or who renege on their promises, will be reminded what is at stake. We need real hope, and real change, for a fairer, greener country.
