Peter Wilkin running for Royston Town Council

Royston town council by-election – 24th July 2025.

Peter has lived in Royston for over five years and has been working in Quality Control at a local electronics company for over a decade. As your town councillor, he will champion social and environmental issues within the Town Council. Even a single Green on the town council can shift the debate and provide an alternative voice to represent local people passionate about their community.

In a statement for the Comet newspaper, Peter wrote:

I’m running to be on Royston Town Council because Royston is a very special place for me, I’ve worked here for over a decade and have lived in the town for 5 years. Royston has been let down by years of council inaction and controlled decline.

Community facilities like the Picture Palace cinema have been shut and events like the Kite Festival have been cancelled. This has marked a decline in community life, and an increase in social isolation and loneliness. I believe that the council can make it easier for community groups to form and to use the wonderful facilities that Royston already has, like the cinema and the empty shops that are becoming increasingly common on our high street.

Since becoming part of the Royston community, I have worked with the Green Party due to our shared principles of social well-being, economic equality, and environmental justice.I would be very honoured to represent Royston Palace in Royston Town Council, and I believe that even one lone Green voice on the Council can change the debate, challenge the status quo, and ensure local people concerned about climate change and passionate about their community have an effective voice within the Town government.

I am enthusiastic about creating a more sustainable positive future for Royston where everyone has the opportunity to live their best life.
